4 Days Old ~ Beginning of Feathers

I was able to get this single picture of the chicks this morning.

There are a few things in this photo that catch my attention. Their skin color is changing, they are starting to grow feathers and the one beak I can see is getting darker. I believe the pink critter in the left-rear is most likely the youngest. If you look closely at the protruding wing near the bottom you can see the new growth of it's wing feathers.  Yep, that stub is a wing.

After lunch I snapped a few more. I've cropped the orginals and enlarged the cropped picture so get the detail.

These little guys, maybe an 1.5 inches long, are so darn ugy they are cute. Note the egg tooth is gone.
Won't be long before the eyes open.  A bad hair day is everyday in their little round world.

I'm thinking Joe E. Brown.  Maybe a singer with feeeeelllllliiiiiiiiiggggggggg.

On another topic I wanted to share this picture of the most beautiful iris I've ever seen. I find this particular iris remarkable and don't recall seeing it last year.

And finally a word about our gourds... well, three words: They're coming up!

I know it isn't much at this stage but these will grow 6 feet up then over the trellis. A small beginning for an
all summer event.  Remember the gourds of last year hanging down like bells. Repeats but better this year.
Stay tuned.

Don't forget to stop and smell the roses.

Whoohoo!!

Isn't it fantastic how the cameras of this day and age can have such clarity? Fantastic! It captures what our eyes can't perceive, and when you enlarge it I think it is fascinating to see what was really there all along... like the feather string in front of his mouth, the dark spot in his mouth, the wrinkles on one of the heads, the nesting material, the veins of the iris, the contours of the the flower edges... gosh, there's just so much to look at! Thanks for taking the time to share all this. Love you. 9
